'Established in 1967 to Support, Record, Preserve & Celebrate the distinct Character and Nature of the West Midlands area known since 1846 as "The Black Country" ... 'The Centre for West Midlands History, (originally the Centre for Birmingham and Midlands History), was founded at the University of Birmingham to create a forum for research into and study of the history of the region. The Centre runs a Masters degree in West Midlands History, an annual conference, day schools and other public events. It provides support for projects and works with heritage professionals and independent scholars in the wider community. The Friends of the Centre for West Midlands History is another initiative.'
