Formed in 1947 'to encourage the appreciation, understanding and practice of the visual arts for all within the local area and, as such, is open to anyone wishing to join ... Our weekly meetings include demonstrations and talks by professional artists, visiting lecturers and our own members ... Our aim is to inspire our members, whatever their ability, to make use of and improve their skills and, although we do not give organised lessons, beginners will find the more experienced members always willing to help’.
