A-Z LECTURES and CATEGORIES

Local Society: Wimborne Minster

'Formed in 1998 to promote and explore various Earth Mysteries. Once a month, speakers are invited to share their views on a variety of subjects; from UK stone circles to Ancient Egypt; from Dowsing to conventional Archaeology. All are welcome.'

'An amateur society which is actively engaged in all aspects of archaeology and historical research ... EDAS activities include monthly lectures from September to May each year.'

'East Dorset Heritage Trust is a small educational charity established over 30 years ago. Our home is Allendale House, centered in the wonderful market town of Wimborne Minster and we offer the opportunity to learn no matter what your age or ability ... We offer heritage events throughout the year with guided walks, talks or visits to interesting and unusual places.'

'The Club meets twice a month, usually one evening of Members' displays plus an auction, and one evening with a visitor. Visits are made to other Clubs.'

'The Somerset & Dorset Family History Society has around 1,500 members worldwide. Most of our members are people tracing their family history in one or both of the two counties but we also have members who have joined because they are interested in local history in our area or because they are researching families elsewhere but live locally and appreciate the advantages of having easy access to the expertise of our many experienced volunteers ... If you live in Somerset or Dorset, there is sure to be an SDFHS Group close to you ... The Groups are one of the Society’s greatest strengths as in addition to arranging interesting talks, most hold self-help events, and they are run by very experienced family historians who can help you with your research.'

'Exists to promote and advance public education and interest in the science of astronomy and related sciences and to provide facilites for the encouragement and pursuit of observational astronomy.'

'We are a friendly club with a varied annual programme and an emphasis on encouraging our members to improve their knowledge and practice of photography. You don't have to take part in our competitions but a great number of our members do so. We have informative and interesting speakers throughout our season, often a great opportunity to learn from their knowledge and experience ... or, maybe, just an encouragement to look at things a different way.'
