'The Great Western Society exists to preserve, restore and operate, as a permanent public exhibition and museum, locomotives, rolling stock, equipment machinery and relics of historical operational and general interest and educational value with particular reference to the former Great Western Railway and its successors following the nationalisation of the railways in 1948 and also to collect, make available for public reference and publish information concerning the history, equipment and operation of the former Great Western and other railways ... The Great Western Society has local groups which organise meetings and events in the Bristol, Oxford, South West (Torbay), Swindon and Taunton areas. The Groups also support the Society by undertaking practical work at Didcot or locally and through the vital elements of fundraising and local publicity.'

'We inspire, enable and encourage people to get involved with history, whether in the classroom, at college, in the library or at home. We passionately believe the study of history should be accessible to all people at all levels of study ... The Historical Association is an active organisation with events happening up and down the UK. The local branches all have a lively lecture programme open to both members of the association and any general member of the public wishing to come along.'

'The Somerset & Dorset Family History Society has around 1,500 members worldwide. Most of our members are people tracing their family history in one or both of the two counties but we also have members who have joined because they are interested in local history in our area or because they are researching families elsewhere but live locally and appreciate the advantages of having easy access to the expertise of our many experienced volunteers ... If you live in Somerset or Dorset, there is sure to be an SDFHS Group close to you ... The Groups are one of the Society’s greatest strengths as in addition to arranging interesting talks, most hold self-help events, and they are run by very experienced family historians who can help you with your research.'

'We provide training, promote best practice and offer advice, support and education to beekeepers and the public. Over the years our members have made – and continue to make - an impressive contribution to British beekeeping at both national and county level ... The Somerset Beekeepers Association is divided into twelve divisions, each corresponding to a different area of the county. Members can join any division, and also be members of more than one division. Members also don't have to live in Somerset, for example some members are from neighbouring counties such as Dorset or Devon ... The SBKA and each division organise lectures, usually in the "off-season" (i.e. autumn and winter, and into early spring) for beekeeping. Most divisional lectures are open to members of other divisions, and if in doubt just ask! Lectures are a great way to learn more about beekeeping and bees, and to help get you ready and excited for the next season.'
