Local Society: Stratford-upon-Avon

Category Arts and Crafts

'Founded in 1955 with the aim of helping bring together the community of craft Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. Rather than set up another organisation for individual craft people we chose the path of becoming an Association of Guilds - an umbrella body to which regional or local Guilds are affiliated. The aim is to support those regional Guilds by operating at a larger scale with National Conferences, National Exhibitions, Competitions, publications and recognised qualifications certifying individuals' high level of achievement and competence in their chosen craft. We now have over 100 member Guilds representing over 5000 crafts-people.'

'The Society was formed in 1994 and covers the area of the Parish of Aston Cantlow, including the villages of Aston Cantlow and Wilmcote, together with the hamlets of Little Alne, Newnham and Shelfield. The main object is the promotion of interest in community, local and general history, through talks, meetings, outings, and by participating in history based events.'

'Our Society was formed in 2006 for enjoyment by those who take an interest in the history of South Warwickshire and beyond. We sustain a membership of over 100 interested members, due to our varied, lively and compelling range of guest speakers, many renowned leaders in their field.'

'Through its meetings and its advice and information service, IFN, with its member bodies, helps make better known and understood the teachings, traditions and practices of the different faith communities in the UK and the pattern of their inter faith work and builds good relations between people of different faiths in the UK.'

'If you are interested in astronomy, The Stratford upon Avon Astronomical Society is for you! Our members range from people with a casual interest in the subject to serious amateurs and professionals. You don't need any specialist knowledge to join, nor do you need to own a telescope ... On the first Tuesday of each month, we have a practical workshop, covering topics oriented around observational astronomy. On the third Tuesday of each month we have a talk by a visiting guest speaker, usually a professional astronomer ... If you're interested, simply turn up at one of our meetings. There's no need to book. Visiting is free, and there's absolutely no pressure to join.'

'Our Society meets every fortnight, from 7:00pm for 7:30pm to approximately 9:30pm ... Visitors are very welcome to any of our meetings.'

'The Welford and Weston Local History Society has been in existence since 1969. Its objectives are to investigate, discuss, acquire and share knowledge of the history of the two villages, and matters relevant to that history. We are a membership-based Society and are currently thriving, with a membership of over 100. We have a schedule of bi-monthly meetings ... from September to March, an AGM in April, and a summer visit, usually in early June. Apart from the announced programme we take part in projects as and when time and interest allows.'
