Local Society: Sevenoaks

'Come along to your local, friendly village gardening club. Visitors and new members are always welcome. We have a wide variety of speakers on plants, wildlife, vegetables and we visit inspiring gardens.'

'Dedicated to the advancement of apiculture (bee-keeping) and the promotion, fostering and encouraging of education therein ... Most of its work is done through local branches, which aim to educate bee-keepers about bee-keeping and to inform, and hopefully enthuse, the public about the magic and mystery of honey bees. There are twelve branches of the Kent Bee-Keepers’ Association.'

'Membership is open to anyone, anywhere in the world and you will receive our quarterly journal mailed direct. You can attend the monthly meetings held at each of our three branches (Bromley, Dartford and Sevenoaks), and can purchase books and listen to a wide variety of talks. All members are welcome to attend any or all of the branch meetings at no extra cost.'

'Aims to help us all to understand and enjoy aspects of our village and parish history and that of the surrounding areas – from the houses and architecture to the people, their livelihoods and the landscape ... We usually organise 9 talks and 2 visits each year. Places on our visits are usually limited in number and only available to members.'

'Aim is to encourage photography and to help our members to make better pictures. We are photographers of all abilities, from relative beginners to very experienced, from around Sevenoaks. We hope you will think about joining us. We're not concerned about what camera you use and we've seen great pictures taken on compacts and mobile phones in our events. Whether beginner or experienced, whatever medium you use to make your photographs, you will be welcome.'

'By raising public awareness, monitoring developments and working with local authorities and other bodies we help to safeguard the town’s character and its physical and natural heritage. We promote responsible and responsive planning and appropriate building development for the improvement of Sevenoaks and the benefit of its community.'
