Local Society: Clevedon

'Here at ABKA we work hard to raise the profile of beekeeping and support local beekeepers. Our objective is to promote the craft of beekeeping and promote the importance of bees. We are affiliated with the BBKA (British Beekeeping Association) and are an umbrella organisation for our network of five local beekeeping branches.'

'The Civic Society was founded in 1970 ... The Society holds monthly public and all member meetings, which include a guest speaker. Within the Society, four individual groups - Conservation and Planning, Footpaths, Local History and Environment - provide a platform for people to engage in their own individual passions and then join together to hopefully have an influence on all matters relating to our community and this beautiful place that we are proud to call home.'

'Nailsea and District Local History Society was established in 1975 and aims to encourage and promote an interest in, and research into, the local history of the area. The Society is open to all, and we meet on the second Monday of the month at Nailsea School. Here we have talks on wide range of subjects of interest to local people.'

Meetings are held ... at 7.30pm on Thursday evenings during the season from September to May. We have a varied and interesting programme of events that is designed to ensure the meetings are enjoyable and sociable. The current membership exceeds 40, is mixed and consists of all abilities, from members who are active photographers and participate in the events to members who enjoy just looking at pictures and socialising at the coffee break.'

Formed 1863: 'Whilst we are a Horticultural Society we are effectively a group of people who are interested in gardening whether it is small pots on a balcony, an allotment, a small garden or something on a grander scale. We hold our monthly meetings in the evening on the second Tuesday of the month and select speakers to offer inspiraton, practical advice and guidance on all manner of gardening problems.'

'Remembering a unique railway – the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead. We are the only group dedicated solely to this railway ... We have regular Members' meetings every two months i.e. six per year. Our meeting venues alternate between Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon and Portishead (in that order of course!). We have guest speakers giving talks on a variety of subjects (usually railways).'
