A-Z LECTURES and CATEGORIES

Local Society: Bracknell

'Objectives of the society are: * To advance education of the public in research into family history and genealogy, primarily but not exclusively within the boundaries of the pre-1974 Royal County of Berkshire; * To work to promote the preservation, transcription, indexing and ready public accessibility of related records and information ... The Centre hosts a lively activities and events programme, aimed at widening researchers’ knowledge and deepening their understanding. Talks, walks, courses and workshops deliver updated perspectives and help place research findings into better historical context ... Branch Meetings usually take place monthly (except July and August) ... Everyone is welcome — you do not have to be a society member to attend. Each meeting features a topic likely to be of relevance and interest to all researchers. Speakers are experts in their respective fields.'

'The place to come if you are interested in any aspect of photography. We cater for all levels of ability and have an ongoing thriving membership ... We have an annual programme jam packed with interesting guest speakers, competitions and Special Interest Group meetings and outings.'

'The Society is for everyone interested in nature and its conservation. Our aims are to present and share information about the Natural World, to increase awareness about its importance and to work to increase the biodiversity of local wildlife habitats ... There is a friendly atmosphere at our meetings, visitors are always welcome and there is no need to book.'

'Membership is open to all types of collector from novices to the advanced and the society caters for a wide range of philatelic interests. Our members collect Great Britain, Commonwealth, Foreign, Postal History and Thematic subjects and much else ... Meetings normally take the form of a short introduction followed by a talk by a guest speaker or a display by members on a particular area of collecting, with a tea and coffee break at half time.'

'Provides for its members, a rich mix of competitions (both for prints and Projected Digital Images), workshops, lectures and field trips. All skill levels are catered for and the club welcomes photographers with a range of experience - from complete beginners, looking to learn from other members - to seasoned photographers.'

'The core of the programme is a series of Thursday evening meetings, running from September to April, when talks are given by members or guest speakers. The talks are given on literary topics of general interest – sometimes on a single author or poet; at other times on a specific them. Refreshments are available, followed by questions and discussions which are informal and lively.'
