'Leicestershires' only geological society, Section 'C', is rooted within the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society, beginning in 1835, and offers a year-round range of activities for all those who have an interest in the Earth Sciences. The Section was formally founded in 1849, from the in-house geological-interest group, which makes it now ... one of the oldest geological societies in the UK. But could it be the oldest? If you know of an older geological society, please do get in touch. We are committed to maintaining the continuity, and health, of Section C; and invite anyone with an interest in planetary science to join us. You don't have to be resident in Leicestershire: Members are Nation-wide. Come along to one of our winter, or summer, meetings, when you will be made very welcome.'

ALERT This Record was originally used to reference the Vaughan Archaeological and Historical Society - and, in particular, the Annual W G Hoskins Lecture. That Lecture has more recently been organized by the Friends of the Centre for English Local History - so I am citing here that Organization instead. The Friends 'are an active and enthusiastic group of local historians, with a wide range of interests. Members may attend the Thursday afternoon seminars held in Leicester, receive our annual Newsletter and join any of the events on our programme, which include outings, study days or weekends and conferences'.
