Open Lectures & TalksSeminars in a 'new book-collecting series organised jointly by the Institute of English Studies (London University) and the ABA Educational Trust ... All the seminars will be aimed at a broad audience including book-collectors, book-dealers, historians of all kinds, librarians, indeed at anyone with an interest in collecting any sort of text from the sixth former to the retired professor. The atmosphere will be informal, as will the presentations. We hope and expect that many of the talks will be illustrated by actual examples.'

Open Lectures & Talks'One of the perks I value most about having a bookshop is that our talks series, such as it is (roughly a speaker a month between September – June) enables me to meet professionals in every field (the arts, sciences, even sports) who I would otherwise never have had the opportunity to meet. Some few are well-known to the public - hey! It’s a long way up here, the fee is risible, and the Old Waiting Room wherein the talks take place only holds 50 people tops (60 if they’re skinny). Still, some serious names (serious names with big hearts) have been willing to make the perilous journey above Watford. Anyway, all the talks begin at 7.30 and cost £3 (and that includes a glass of plonk no less.)'

'The Chichester Literary Society was formed in January 2005. Its predecessor, the West Sussex Literary Society (founded by Irene Campbell) was disbanded and the new society formed in response to the wishes of members, who wanted a Chichester-based society, rather than one whose meetings were held in different locations around the county ... Since its formation, the Society has gone from strength to strength. Throughout the year it offers a wide range of talks by speakers on many literary subjects.'
