'The Chester Archaeological Society was founded in 1849. From the beginning our interests have extended over the historic county of Cheshire (including Wirral and parts of Greater Manchester) plus neighbouring areas, and have included archaeology, history, architectural history and conservation ... Between the Autumn and Spring (usually September to May) we organise a programme of monthly lectures on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons ... Our lectures cover a wide range of topics and are given by speakers who are experts in their field. In addition, conferences are occasionally organised in partnership with other organisations. Admission to lectures is free to members of the Society. Visitors are welcome on payment of an admission fee.'

'One of the world's oldest scientific societies going back to 1892. It hosts public lectures by amateurs and professionals alike and arranges visits to sites of technical interest.'

Normally held Mid November: 'One of the longest-running annual literature events in the country ... with a packed programme of visiting poets, writers, broadcasters, wordsmiths and actors'.
