Philosophy in Pubs (14)
'We are a group of local people of all ages, both men and women, who have no formal in-depth philosophical training, but who love sharing ideas and learning new things in a supportive environment.'
'We are a discussion group of friendly and intelligent people who enjoy wrestling with philosophical topics, aiming for a poor-man's Olympia Academy or Cambridge Apostles! Promoting exchange through examination and reasoned argument, members shouldn't be averse to a little amateur scholarship. Different views - especially the unorthodox - are welcome but do expect to justify, critique, be critiqued and engage analytically with the ideas of others.'

'Meets (with a couple of exceptions) on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30 pm.'
Occasional meetings: ''We normally meet in the bookshop café at eight on a Saturday Night. The talk lasts about an hour, followed by something to eat and a discussion phase that goes on to ten or a bit later - and afterwards in the pub for some ...'.

'On the third Tuesday of each month, join us ... to listen as speakers introduce insights and invite us to address key problems. Afterwards, why not continue the debate in our online forum ?'

'Meetings are held on Wednesday Evenings 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.'
'On the first Wednesday of every month the PFA meets at "Kant’s Cave" for a lecture, debate and social evening ... The idea of using the function room of a pub for our philosophy meetings is that we would like to combine serious philosophical activity with an informal exchange of ideas and views. We therefore invite everybody to stay on after the lectures for more talk and debate. All lectures start at 7.30 pm; the bar is open from 7.00. There is a £2 door charge for non-PFA members.'
Philosophy for All
'Kingston Philosophy Café is a series of events, not a place. It currently meets twice a month: on Thursday evenings at Bridges Café ... with discussions beginning at 6.00 pm and ending at around 7.25; and on Wednesday evenings at the Ram Jam Club ... starting at 7.00 pm and ending at 9.00 ... Free and open to all – anyone interested in philosophy is welcome and no prior knowledge or expertise is needed, though experts, philosophy teachers and students are very welcome.'
'We are a group of wisdom lovers who enjoy meeting once a month for a topical discussion (often with a philosophical slant) over a coffee and a cake. Established for over a year, we have a strong following of young students but anyone is welcome in spite of age. It is not a forum for argument but more a forum for listening, exchanging ideas and forming new opinions ... LPC is free of charge, except for the price of cup of tea or coffee and perhaps a bite to eat.'
Usually one or two evening meetings each month. A Meetup Group.
'Meetings of the Society focus around talks, readings and discussions, and are conducted in a friendly and convivial atmosphere ... Membership is free, and is not normally required for participation in most activities. The Society does however welcome donations; the suggested donation is £20 annually.'
>>> PFA at Bishopsgate
'All debates are on Saturdays, from 2.30 to 4 pm. By debate we don't mean exactly what is normally meant by that word (following Humpty-Dumpty's example in Alice.) In our debates, a topic is introduced by a speaker (or speakers) who will normally speak for less than twenty minutes before opening the topic to the floor and moderating the ensuing discussion.'
'We generally meet at 12.30 pm on the 1st Sunday of the month; however, public holidays, etc may occasionally affect the date ... All are Welcome.'

'Each free session begins with a short talk by one of the University’s Philosophy experts, followed by an open forum for debate. Discussions are relaxed with groups large enough to enjoy a number of diverse opinions, yet small enough to allow you to put your views across ... Please note the Philopsophy Cafés are free of charge and there is no need to book, feel free to just turn up.'
'The talks given by Southampton's philosophers at the Philosophy Café at the John Hansard Gallery are now available to listen to as podcasts.'
